Update from Superintendent, Rob Barnwell.

posted Feb 22, 2017, 6:36 PM by japeeler@jeffersonisd.org   [ updated Feb 24, 2017, 5:27 AM ]

JISD Superintendent Rob Barnwell said:

I want everyone to know that we really appreciate your understanding and patience today as we dealt with the lockdown situation.   The incident that occurred about a mile north of the high school, off of highway 59, seems to have been a result of a domestic dispute and there is no reason to believe that our students or staff will be in any danger as we move forward.  Therefore, we will have school tomorrow as normal.  We also plan to allow our students to participate in all of the extra-curricular activities that are scheduled.

I understand these incidents create concern and are inconvenient to deal with.  However, here at JISD, we always want to be diligent and ensure that all our students and staff members remain safe as possible.

This information will also be placed on our district website and our facebook page in order to help communicate our message and to assist anyone who may not be receiving the "all-call messages" by telephone.  If you would like to be added to the all-call list, or if you need to update your contact information, please feel free to contact us at the school and we will take care of that for you.   Thank you again.

Situation Update for Jefferson ISD School. - All Call Information.

posted Feb 22, 2017, 1:31 PM by japeeler@jeffersonisd.org   [ updated Feb 24, 2017, 5:28 AM ]

Today, Jefferson ISD Schools were in a "Lock-Down" due to an incident in close proximity to the high school campus.  The following "All-Call" messages were sent out in efforts to notify the parents of what Jefferson ISD was doing to create a safe environment for students and staff:

"For the safety of our students and staff, All campuses are currently on lockdown (which means no one is allowed in or out of our secured buildings) until notification from our local law enforcement.  A shooting took place at a residence on hwy 59 just north of the high school and the suspect has not be apprehended at this time.  It is believed he is armed and dangerous.  He may be driving a white SUV, possibly a Ford Explorer.   Please contact us at the school or the local law enforcement if you witness anything that may be of assistance.  We have been advised to maintain lockdown status until further notice.  We will be in contact with everyone again as soon as the situation changes.  Our students are in a safe domain at this time with plenty of supervision.  I certainly appreciate your understanding during this situation.

"At this time, JISD is still on mandatory lockdown at all campuses.   However , it has been determined that it is safe to allow for parents to personally come pick up their students beginning at 3:00 pm.  Local law enforcement will be positioned at each campus to provide appropriate security during the pickups. However, at this time, we are not prepared to allow for the busses to run their normal routes until further notice since the suspect that was mentioned in the previous all-call has not been apprehended at this time.  I understand this situation has caused some inconvenience and concern. I appreciate your continued understanding as we try to deal with the ongoing issue.  Please call us here at the school or our local law enforcement should you become aware of anything that may be of assistance regarding this situation.   Thanks again."

District-Wide Evacuation Drill set for Wednesday, September 21 starting at 9:00AM.

Why Conduct Drills?
Drills enhance safety, which saves lives and protects property. Any emergency plan is only as good as the ability of students, faculty and staff to execute it. When everyone at the campus regularly practices the plan, they are more confident in making decisions to effectively and efficiently manage an emergency. With good training and practice, everyone involved will be better able to respond appropriately to emergency events.
The safety and security of students and staff depends upon knowing what to do when an actual incident occurs. Minutes or even seconds can make a difference in saving lives. Conducting drills strengthens schools by empowering and creating a culture of preparedness. Drills allow administrators, staff and students to better prevent, mitigate, prepare for and recover from a variety of incidents.

In an effort to make our district as safe as possible, Jefferson ISD will be conducting a district-wide evacuation drill on September 21, 2016 beginning at 9:00am. Please make a note that we will not be available between the time of 9:00am until after 10:00am. Thank you.
