My daughter Kathryn attended Jefferson Elementary, Jefferson Junior High, and graduated from Jefferson High School in 2010 as Valedictorian of her class. In 2014, she graduated from Texas A&M, and is currently a Level III Nuclear Engineer at Grand Gulf Nuclear Plant in Mississippi.
I am extremely proud of the quality education our students are getting at JISD. We have young adults who have excelled in every walk of life and are leaders in their prospective fields. We have amassed a phenomenal staff that is leading our students toward a higher quality education in which individual students can work toward their specific career field. As a small district, we realize not all students will go to college. In order to prepare our students for entry into the workforce, we have extended our CTE programs, insuring an opportunity to move into fields such as welding, nursing, law enforcement, military and many more. Our Dual Credit program will allow our students headed to college to gain college credits that will expedite their path.
Serving since 2009, I am also extremely proud to be a part of a school board that puts the safety of our students and staff above all else. In 2017 we adopted “The Guardian Program” which places well-trained, armed members of our administration, faculty and staff on all of our campuses.
My interest in JISD has been strong because of my daughter and my 3 nephews, 2 of whom have graduated from JISD. The youngest, Will, is now in the 8th grade.
The school district is the first thing prospective businesses and families look at when relocating. I am proud that at Jefferson ISD, being a small district, we see all the students as our own, and want to give them the best opportunities for a prosperous and productive life.
