JISD SCHOOL CLOSURE FAQs

 

How long will JISD schools be closed?

Governor Greg Abbot issued an order to close schools for the remainder of the 2019 – 2020 school year.. For more information, click here to read the press release from Superintendent Rob Barnwell.




Is JISD serving student meals? When? Where?

JISD is providing breakfast and lunch 5 days per regular school week for children ages 0 – 18 years.  Bus drivers will deliver meals to students who normally ride a bus. How will 9 weeks/semester grades be determined?

“Promotion/graduation should be considered by relying on grades and academic success during the first three quarters of this school year, along with whatever progress is made and what work is done between now and the end of the school year, no matter how long this ‘remote learning’ situation is in place.”

Will my student still have to take the STAAR test?

Gov. Abbott waived the Texas STAAR testing requirements for the 2019 – 2020 school year on March 16, 2020. Click here to read the full article.

DISTRICT-WIDE FREE MEALS FOR STUDENTS

The Jefferson Independent School District is proud to announce a district-wide change in policy of serving meals to children under the National School Lunch Program and National School Breakfast Program for the 2019 – 2020 school year.  Jefferson I.S.D. is now eligible to operate the Community Eligbility Provision (CEP), which provides free breakfast and lunch to all children at no charge and eliminates the collection of meal applications for free, reduced-price, and paid student meals.   The approach reduces burdens for families and school administrators and helps ensure that student receive meals.
