Jason Bonner

Board Vice President

Place 1-President

Term Begins: May 2022

Term Expires: May 2025

I have been serving on the JISD Board of Trustees since 2013. I have four children who have graduated or who are currently attending JISD. My oldest son, Dory, graduated from JISD in 2017 and is currently working on a degree in construction science. Logan just graduated in May 2021, Cooper is in the 7th grade, and Bentlie is attending 5th grade. I also graduated from JISD in 1989.

As a Board Member, our top priority is the safety of our students and staff. I am proud to be a part of the decision which helped to institute the Guardian Program in our district. Since my time on the Board, we have successfully hired quality personnel to lead and teach our children. JISD offers well-rounded educational opportunities for all of our students in order to prepare them to enroll into college, join the military, or become a productive member of the work force. I am happy to see a huge increase in student enrollment and curriculum choices related to our Career/Tech and Dual Credit classes. I am proud to have been a part of the establishment of the CTE Showcase/Banquet/Auction, which began in 2017. This event not only showcases the talents and the many items built by our students, but it is also a fundraiser, through an on-site auction and donations, which helps to provide more opportunities for our students. We also have superb extra-curricular activities, affording our young people opportunities to belong to teams and groups, which helps them to grow and mature in a holistic way.

Additionally, as a member of the Board, I want the community to know we are always striving to maintain fiscal integrity, ensuring that our tax dollars are used in a positive and responsible manner. We continue to offer a local homestead exemption to our homeowners, which very few school districts across the state are able to do any more. As with many districts, we must operate each year within tight budget restrictions. However, we continue to offer a top-notch education to our youngsters and we maintain a great environment for our staff to work in. JISD consistently receives a “Superior” rating from the Texas Education Agency, along with superb annual audits, regarding our fiscal responsibilities and business operations.

Overall, we want our young folks to become successful, mature adults who make good decisions. I am proud of Jefferson ISD and the things we are doing for our kids and community. It’s really good to be a Bulldog!
