Here’s what some of the archery students are saying:
Jefferson Archery-Where Focus Takes Flight. If you are on time, you are late…..these are a couple of my favorite Mr. Cothren sayings. I have learned so much this first year in Jefferson Archery. Mr. and Mrs. Cothren have been great at teaching me about the sport of archery, shooting techniques, bow maintenance, range safety, teamwork and sportsmanship. We have also learned that responsibility, communication, and preparation is all needed to be a part of a successful archery program.
I really appreciate their work ethic and how they care about us. I liked getting to compete in San Antonio and I want to be a part of the program so much that I even bought a new bow case. I really hope this program continues and me and my teammates can go back to San Antonio and shoot even better. The experience in San Antonio also helped me get to learn about my teammates better. Thank you for letting us go this year to learn more about competing at the state level.
Sincerely, Montgomery Mabus, 8th Grader JJHS
When I’m asked “Why do you love archery?” my mind always goes to how it’s accommodating, especially as someone with anxiety. The environment on the range is quiet, and controlled, with no distractions other than your bow and arrow. I’ve never been interested in sports, the loud crowd, bright lights, constant moving, bendable rules. I always thought I would never do sports, that was until archery. Everyone was quiet, the lights weren’t blinding, you were stationary for most of the time, and the rules were non-negotiable.
Archery has helped me with so many things, it gave me opportunities to travel across the state, sight see, experience once in a lifetime things. It’s also given me something to do with my dad, as we practice a lot in the backyard. Over the past year I’ve improved so much in archery, going from a high of 248, to a high of 265. It’s helped me practice companionship and helping my team. Archery is not only an accommodating sport, it also helps improve as a person and lets me experience so many things.
